CleanTECH San Diego is a local trade organization helping accelerate San Diego as a world leader in the clean technology economy.

CleanTECH San Diego's efforts have earned the organization a spot on the “Top 10 Cleantech Cluster Organizations for 2010” list in Sustainable World Capital’s list of global cleantech organization leaders.

The San Diego region is home to more than 600 cleantech companies including Aptera Motors, Kyocera Solar Inc., Sapphire Energy, Inc. and Synthetic Genomics.

San Diego is one of the greenest cities in the
nation, according to the National Resources Defense Council. In 2009 San Diego was ranked 11 among the top 12.

San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography is the world’s preeminent center for ocean and earth research.

San Diego Center for Algae Biotechnology was established in 2009 as a consortium of researchers from The Scripps Research Institute; University of California, San Diego; Scripps Institution of Oceanography; and San Diego State University to support the development of innovative, sustainable and commercially viable algae-based biotechnology solutions.

The City of San Diego mandates that all new facilities and major renovation projects achieve LEED “Silver” Level Certification.

The region’s cleantech companies received $197 million in venture capital investment in 2008.
