National City is the second oldest city in San Diego County. With a population of approximately 54,260, National City is bordered by the City of San Diego on the north and east, Chula Vista on the south, San Diego Bay on the west and is just 10 miles north of the Mexican border. The median age of a National City resident is almost 29 years old and there are nearly 12,000 families living in the 9.2 square mile area. Residents and visitors enjoy the City's pleasant climate, with an average temperature of about 70 degrees and an annual rainfall of approximately 9 ½ inches.

National City's Victorian heritage is one of its more important assets. Incorporated on September 17, 1887, National City was originally part of the 26,000-acre El Rancho de la Nacion, which was purchased in 1868 by Frank Kimball and his brothers Warren and Levi. They cleared lands, built roads, constructed the City's first wharf and brought the railroad to the City.
