CHALLENGE

With a week’s notice and on recommendation from its real estate agency Hughes Marino, Samsung Semiconductor contacted EDC for support and participation in its March 6 office ribbon cutting. The company’s President Jinman Han and CFO Sungmin Eun would be in market and keen to meet local leaders to understand San Diego’s commitment to the Samsung’s growth and success in the region.

EDC SOLUTION AND SUPPORT PROVIDED

EDC’s Marketing Communications team moved quickly to understand the company expansion via an intake call; outreached to the City of San Diego to successfully secure Mayor Todd Gloria’s attendance; and aligned with peers at the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the special occasion together.

Working in lockstep with the Samsung team, EDC helped advise on event flow, speakers and guests, talking points, local press outreach, gifts, and more.

VALUE DERIVED

Together with its 20+ staff, executive team, and regional leaders including EDC’s SVP Nikia Clarke, Chamber CEO Jerry Sanders, City of San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and Director of Economic Development Christina Bibler, among others, the Samsung Semiconductor team marked the opening of its new sales office in Del Mar with a ribbon cutting and reception. Further, thanks to a Mayoral Proclamation, March 6 is now Samsung Day in the City of San Diego.

The celebratory event secured several media hits, including the San Diego Business Journal, which featured a coordinated interview with EDC’s Nikia Clarke.

EDC also promoted the expansion via our blog, social media, and e-newsletter.

“Samsung Semiconductor’s Memory and Foundry businesses are poised for growth as we innovate and fuel the future of AI, mobile, and automotive. We were grateful to have the support of EDC, Mayor Gloria, and the Chamber as we expand our footprint and impact in San Diego and Southern California, and look forward to the collaboration to come.”

—Jinman Han, President, Samsung Semiconductor
