Position Announcement & Job Description

COMPANY OVERVIEW

World Trade Center San Diego (WTCSD) drives the region’s global competitiveness priorities through growing exports and foreign investment, deepening ties to strategic international markets, and boosting the region’s global identity. WTCSD operates as an affiliate of San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation (EDC), which mobilizes business, government, and civic leaders to maximize the region’s economic prosperity. EDC is a nonprofit 501(c)(6) corporation funded by 180 companies and public partners committed to this mission.

GENERAL FUNCTION

Deliver services and programming as a member of the international economic development team, with a focus on running the MetroConnect export accelerator and activities related to the Export Small Business Development Center (Export SBDC). In addition to assisting regional businesses in their effort to globalize, the manager of the World Trade Center San Diego team plays a role in stewarding inbound foreign investment projects and building relationships with cross-border partners in Mexico. This is a full-time position, reporting to the Director, World Trade Center San Diego.

EDC offers a collaborative and flexible working environment in San Diego’s vibrant downtown. Managers will work a full 40-hour work week, with a full suite of benefits. EDC offers a flexible schedule including remote work on Mondays and Fridays, and in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Management – Lead in planning/execution for the MetroConnect export accelerator, while providing essential support for initiatives such as international trade missions.

  • Serve as the main point of contact for 15 companies going through the export accelerator each year
  • Create scopes of work, content and programming, timelines, and understand the resources required/available for multi-year initiatives
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and private/public sector sponsors, involving senior team members when necessary
  • Oversee the hosting of large, public events, such as the MetroConnect Launch/PitchFest and international trade mission programming

Client Support – Support the economic development goals of the region by facilitating attraction, expansion, and retention projects for international and local firms.

  • Provide one-on-one consulting to small businesses
  • Track client project wins and outcomes; generate case studies that demonstrate impact
  • Work closely with Mexican partners on cross-border manufacturing and tech talent projects
  • Host foreign delegations visiting San Diego with an intent to invest in key industries and connect them to relevant partners in the region
  • Respond to requests for information, consolidate market research packets, and develop capabilities in EMSI/ESRI/CoStar and other relevant tools.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree in international relations, business administration, economics or related field OR equivalent experience
  • Technical skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Excel); Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
  • Understanding of project management principles (planning, budgeting, communication, etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; public speaking
  • Demonstrated analytical capability
  • Self-directed and motivated team player with ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure
  • Demonstrated competencies: client-focused, accountable, coachable, unquestionable integrity
  • Ability to travel when necessary (domestic and international) – under 3 weeks/year
  • Native fluency in Spanish preferred, other languages a plus

Salary range: $66,500-$85,000
