GENERAL FUNCTION
Deliver services and programming as a member of the Talent Initiatives team, with a targeted focus on EDC’s Advancing San Diego program which aims to expand connectivity between talent at regional training programs with career opportunities in high-growth, high-demand fields within the innovation economy. The role also includes coordinating talent development and retention efforts in alignment with organization and regional inclusive growth efforts, including transactional work with employers. This position reports to the Director, Talent Initiatives.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Management – Manage programming to develop and retain talent in the San Diego region.
- Maintain the Advancing San Diego budget as well as relationships with core parnters. Help to source and develop proposals for potential funding opportunities
- Oversee and execute existing EDC talent programming to connect regional training institutions (colleges, universities, and others) with public and private sector hiring teams
- Engage employers to identify cross-cutting gaps in current and projected talent pipelines
- Form strategic collaborations with academic institutions to address projected skillset gaps
- Be knowledgeable of Labor Market Information data that informs talent strategies
- Form and maintain relationships with educators to relay demand in high-growth, high-demand fields
- Work with EDC’s Marketing team to position the region as a top-destination for talent
- Evaluate and implement strategy to strengthen program value propositions
Client Project Management – Support talent attraction and retention through direct company work and coordination of strategic programs.
- Conduct outreach meetings with senior executives in target industries and support decision makers in triaging issues and challenges
- Work to build relationships with industry stakeholders, civic leaders, and partner organizations, and leverage wider EDC investor networks to form creative solutions to company talent challenges
- Partner with other key organizations in the space to support a regional summer internship program
- Maintain Salesforce database with meeting notes, project progress, and key contact information
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent writer, able to compose blogs, emails, event invitations, and other forms of mass communication. The Manager will author content related to talent team’s activities, findings, and accomplishments.
- Savvy researcher, able to find relevant data through public sources and compile it in a digestible format with little guidance. The Manager will regularly update and reference data related to San Diego’s talent pipeline including enrollment in K-12, community colleges, and universities, as well as general labor market information (LMI). The Manager will also lead on developing and deploying surveys to employers to gain a real-time picture of the talent landscape.
- Great verbal communicator, able to present to external audiences and identify key podium opportunities where EDC’s thought leadership is relevant. The Manager will, on a regular basis, have to communicate by email, virtually, and in-person with key business leaders from across San Diego.
- Organized and motivated, able to lead internal and external meetings, build consensus with key partners, and oversee Coordinator in administrative and logistical responsibilities as needed. The Manager will be expected to operate the program independently, while keeping the team Director and other organizational leaders regularly updated.
- Resourceful and a quick learner, with some familiarity using the following tools:
- spreadsheets (ex: Excel, Google Sheets, Smartsheet)
- word processing software (ex: Microsoft Word, Google Docs)
- presentation software (ex: PowerPoint)
- databases (ex: Salesforce)
- survey tools (ex: Qualtrics)
- creative design platforms (ex: Canva, Figma, InDesign, etc.)
- Existing interest in and/or knowledge of corporate hiring practices, talent attraction strategies, regional workforce development programs, and/or Talent Pipeline Management® are a bonus.
Salary range: $65,000-$85,000
